Contemporary French Ceramics
20 March - 25 April 2009
From 20 March to 25 April 2009 we will be showing the work of three ceramic artists at flow in conjunction with the French Jewellery exhibition 'Also Known as Jewellery'.
Nathalie Domingo draws her inspiration from patterns and textures found in nature such as the delicate bark of a tree or ocean plants. Her work is richly textured with various different techniques and new approaches to the material. From her studio in Sèvres, she creates one off sculptural objects, limited series, decorative and useful objects in porcelain and in stoneware.
Marilyn Vince's poetic vessels are containers for dreams and the imaginary. Her pure forms are put together by piling up, joining together and using the clay in unusual ways. She uses mixed clays such as stoneware with earthenware to give different effects; thus they all have a story to tell.
Virginie Besengez also draws her inspiration from nature. She is interested in the movement, repetition in the landscapes that are constantly changing with the wind and the light. 'Like a photographer I would like to capture a moment in time by creating forms and curves similar to those found in nature. The texture of the surfaces of my vessels achieved by polishing, grinding and also raku firing is very important to me.'
