Since 1982 the translucency of fine high-fired porcelain has led me as a studio potter to throw sculptural forms that give light. Ideas stem from the nature of the material, forms that can grow from the potter's wheel, the process of firing and a sense of adventure with light and space.
Working in the studio of Ryoji Koie in Japan in 1991 followed by exhibitions and workshops in Australia, Denmark, and the USA have influenced my work.
In 1999 a Southern Arts Research and Development Grant enabled me to work in Stoke-on-Trent at Wades Ceramics and Valentine Clay Products to learn the industrial processes and develop a translucent slip suitable for my creative ideas for manufactured porcelain lighting. The first cast prototypes are currently produced from my studio.
More recently becoming a Scuba Diver has introduced me to another world and has become a new source of inspiration. Commissions are designed and made for specific locations.
