Makers and Museums Tours - Denmark – Modern Danish Design

A celebration of Denmark’s timeless beauty and simplicity in craft, design and architecture

Join Flow Gallery owner, Yvonna Demczynska and museum explorer, Cathy Giangrande and discover for yourself why Denmark’s design, architecture and craftsmanship is widely regarded as among the greatest in the world.

This tour will take you to see work by the most esteemed designers, craftsmen and architects both past and present, as well as studios and homes. Visit the houses of the designer Arne Jacobsen, and architect and industrial designer Finn Juhl, both known worldwide for their furniture designs. See the work of Hans Wegner – the undisputed man of Danish chair design and a driving force in the Danish Modern movement. Renowned artist, Bodil Manz represented in museums and collections throughout the world, glass artist, Steffen Dam and ceramist, Hans Vangsoe are among those who will open their studios to us for private visits.

You will discover how Denmark’s golden era, from the 1920’s to 1960’s when outstanding designers and craftspeople emerged onto the international design stage, influenced makers and designers across the globe. Known for their classic creations that embody simple lines, quality materials and functionality, Danish design is made for living and many of their masterpieces are still being reproduced today.

We have created an itinerary, based on our recent successful tours to another design nation – Finland. Besides studio visits, this journey will take you to the Ordrupgaard Museum set in an Art Park, the Louisianna Museum famed for its unexpected treasures and, to the island of Bornholm with its strong tradition of glass and ceramic craft where we will also visit the Ceramic Museum housed in an 1859 factory. Here too private visits to the makers’ workshops have been arranged, and there will be opportunities to purchase works directly from the artists in their studios. While in Copenhagen your home will be the chic urban boutique hotel, Ibsens Hotel in the charming Nansensgade area in the city centre, while lunches and dinners will be held in some of the best of the burgeoning new restaurant scene.

Come join Flow Gallery owner, Yvonna Demczynska and museum voyager, Cathy Giangrande and discover for yourself why Finnish design is held in such high regard and continues to be revered.
