Helen Carnac

I rarely start with a function in mind. I am usually prompted by the inherent qualities of the material and I also try to express my interest in the relationship between mass and line. I strive for my work to convey a sense of dynamism and movement without being mechanical. My newest work concentrates on the material used: using fine silver to evoke a feeling of fragility, rough lines are scribed and burnt into the surface of this precious metal. These fragile forms are then trapped into various landscapes of steel, pearwood, maple and plaster.
