Flow will be showcasing a selection of crafts inspired by the profundity of nature, the artist’s interpretations of the botanical. Akiko Hirai's 'Moon jars' explore the aesthetic of imperfections. "The beauty of the moon lies in its shade on the surface, and contrast with the sky." Edmond Byrne creates organic glass vessels. The making process determines the final form. The intricate representation of the botanical through paper by Claire Brewster’s hand cut map installations and in metal by Maria Jauhiainen Lahti’s, something extremely fragile and transient in nature has been translated into a durable material, still maintaining the essence of a delicate leaf. Lisa stockham’s ceramic are based on the decorative detailing of leaves and floral motifs. The objects are built up from patterns; the decoration becomes the structure. There will also be more directly illustrative depictions of flora and fauna in the work by Katy Jennings and Buddug Wyn Humphreys.
