Celebrate Nordic craft & food
Thursday 4 May, 7.00pm
London Craft Week May 3rd-7th 2017
An evening that showcases Nordic gastronomy and design at Aquavit London with Flow Gallery. Aquavit hosts a bespoke three-course dinner served on specially commissioned plates designed and made by Flow’s three Nordic artists, Finland’s Anna Kantanen, Sweden’s Maria Kristofersson, and Lars Soendergaard from Denmark.
Flow’s director, Yvonna Demczynska, joins them during dinner to discuss their artistic processes and influences that demonstrate the intersection of craftsmanship across disciplines, creating a memorable dining & artistic experience. The limited edition ceramics will be available to buy from the Flow Gallery after the event.
“ Crafted for a nordic dinner at Aquavit, I found inspiration for my plates from the surroundings from my home country Finland. I imagined a plain and planar shape to convey a subtle resemblance of a stone with its grey clay and its slightly olive-green glaze, suggesting the viewer of a puddle or fresh moss in a lush forest. My intention was to contrast the nordic mood and colours of the Chef’s carefully selected ingredients .”
Drawing and painting are the basis for Swedish artist Maria Kristofersson’s work in clay. Her ceramics can be seen as three-dimensional drawings. Lines and surface texture are important features within her work. Kristofersson works with earthenware clay with a restrained color palette of terracotta, white and black.
Danish born potter Lars P.Soendergaard Gregersen works within the Scandinavian tradition of design and function. All designs are handthrown on the wheel in finest English porcelain. The Lace plate created for Aquavit dinner is his contemporary take on the traditional ‘half lace’ porcelain produced by Royal Copenhagen.
