Works In Willow by Lizzie Farey
8th Sept – 29 October 2016
Private View 6-8 PM, 7th of September 2016
We are delighted to present a new body of sculptural wall and table-top works in willow by Lizzie Farey.
Born in Singapore in 1962 and educated at Canterbury and Cardiff Colleges of Art, Lizzie moved to rural Dumfries and Galloway in 1987. Since setting up as a full-time basket maker in 1997 she has been the recipient of numerous awards and her work is represented in many private and public collections.
Working with willow has become a medium for an interaction with nature that is deeply personal. Lizzie grows all her own willow and selects other locally grown woods from nearby fields and woodlands.
"The inspiration behind my work comes from a fascination with living things and natural forms. I find an exhilarating freedom in the opportunity to explore undiscovered forms and a new relation to nature. There is a process that you have to go through which is chaos, and absolute concentration and an enduring belief is necessary before order and stillness can return."
