Tableau: A theatrical term describing a pause during or at the end of a scene on stage when all the performers briefly freeze in position.
Rosa Nguyen, an artist with an established practice in ceramics, views the display of objects as a tableau. New Act, her solo exhibition at flow Gallery, Notting Hill, will see Nguyen create a central gallery tableau; a landscape of ceramic and glass objects. Nguyen explores the poetics of display through installation and will bring new interpretations to the orders and meaning of flow's contemporary collection, making playful connections between form and function. Focusing on the vessel as a container, she brings into conversation a collection of preserved and pressed, plants and flowers which reference the Japanese art of flower arrangement. Nguyen will curate the exhibition, exploring new rearrangements of her ceramic and glass objects, the gallery's collection and architectural ceramic work from designer Lubna Chowdhary.
