Catherin Dix

French Ceramic Artist

“MY WORK QUESTIONS THE BORDER BETWEEN CRAFT AND ART, BETWEEN THE ANCESTRAL OBJECT DEDICATED TO A SPECIFIC FUNCTION OF OUR DAILY LIFE AND THE SCULPTURE.”

Born in 1970 in Paris, Catherine Dix settled in the Green Périgord near Brantôme the end of 2021. She began working with bottle forms when she first discovered ceramics in 2012 after a conversion, gradually moving away from the primary use of the bottle by making the shapes more complex. Some have become sculptural, the archaic aspect always remaining present. Dix’s ceramics are thought of as small architectures, sometimes perched on high legs. A game of construction takes place, in search of the perfect balance.
