Claire Brewster

British Paper Artist

“MY ART TELLS OF THE TENDER ESSENCE OF HUMAN LIFE. IT SINGS OF NATURE’S VULNERABILITY & FRAGILITY, OF ITS FILIGREE IMPULSES & DELICATE TENSIONS.”

Claire Brewster starts with the tantalisingly forbidden act of cutting up maps, books and magazines. She creates entomological installations of flora and fauna from imagined locations, taking inspiration from nature. Brewster’s birds, insects and flowers transcend borders and pass freely between countries with scant regard for immigration rules or the effects of biodiversity. Claire uses old dated maps and atlases as her fabric to create her intricate, delicate and detailed paper cuts.
