Lisa Stockham

British Ceramic Artist

“MY WORK EXPLORES THE REDUNDANCY & RENEWAL OF AN OBJECT, CONNECTING THE PAST WITH THE PRESENT. THE VESSELS REFERENCE HISTORIC, ANCIENT VESSELS & ARCHAEOLOGICAL ARTIFACTS. THE EVIDENCE OF THE PASSING OF TIME - FRAYED FABRIC, PEELING PAINT, ERODED ARCHITECTURE, RUSTING METALS, DECAY & EROSION, INSPIRES ME. THROUGH MY CERAMICS I EXPLORE ROUGH SURFACE TEXTURES COMBINED WITH GRAPHIC PATTERNS.”

Lisa reviews the use of pattern decoration and textile imagery. She often takes decorative detailing as a starting point and builds her vessels from the pattern. The decoration becomes the structure. The pieces are reminiscent of cut sheets of fabric or as if the form has been rebuilt from fragments, becoming reminiscent of eroding sculptures or mended crockery.
