Lizzie Kimbley

British Basketmaker

‘I ENJOY THE PARALLELS BETWEEN WALKING AND WEAVING; THE SLOWNESS AND MOVEMENT OF WALKING ARE ECHOED IN THE REPETITION AND RHYTHMS OF THE MAKING PROCESS MAKING EACH A MINDFUL AND MEDITATIVE PRACTICE.’

Lizzie Kimbley is a textile artist and weaver based in Norfolk. She works with woven textiles, natural dyes and basketry techniques to create contemporary artworks exploring responsible design and connection to nature and place.

Walking in the beautiful Norfolk landscape, Lizzie gathers plants for natural dye and basketry work. Walking Blickling is a collection of basketry pieces made in response to walking and gathering in the grounds and gardens of Blickling Hall. Materials such as daffodil, crocosmia and sweet flag leaves are gathered, dried and made into cordage that is woven into textured nest-like forms.
