Opening November 13th 2025, Flow Gallery is pleased to announce a solo show by JAEJUN LEE.

JaeJun is greatly influenced by Lucie Rie, who valued harmony between her work and the environment it inhabits. This can be felt in the presence of his pieces and their ability to inspire a sense of calm in a space. 

“I wish for people to simply observe and feel - to connect with the work through quiet contemplation.”

Working in porcelain, he finds beauty in purity and the line of a simple form. The discipline of his making finds balance in the introduction of chance in his glazing. Fired at high temperatures, celadon flows around his vessels and red grains scatter through their surface. 

“It’s the balance between intention and surprise that keeps the work alive for me.” 

The title, Ruach, meaning breath or spirit, reflects this life that emerges through making.

ARTIST STATEMENT 

It was one Sunday last year. I was sitting in church, listening to the pastor’s sermon. 
He spoke about the moment in Genesis when God breathes life into His creation, and introduced the Hebrew word ruach — breath, wind, spirit. 

“Then the LORD God formed man from the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and the man became a living being.” 

Omnipotence, of course, belongs to God alone. 
And yet, the moment I heard those words, a deep resonance stirred within my heart. 
To form something from the earth, to give it shape with my hands, and through fire to transform it — is this not, in some way, a kind of breath-giving too? 

I held on to that word — ruach — quietly, carefully. 
It became a thread running through my practice, and I knew it would become the title of this exhibition at Flow Gallery. 

 

Working with clay is, for me, an act of devotion. Each vessel is shaped with the same care, attention, and love — yet each emerges from the fire differently. 
Unexpected textures, colours, and forms… 
At times, they emerge beyond my intentions, as if guided by a will of their own. 
At times, it feels as though they carry a will of their own, choosing what they want to become.
