Akiko Takahashi & Tamotsu Suzuki
We look forward to presenting the work of Akiko Takahashi at Flow for the first time, alongside a new collection of vessels by Tamotsu Suzuki.
This is an exhibition of two Japanese ceramic artists who make slowly, shaping by hand. Traces of fingertips are preserved in dark clay meeting pale slips. Surfaces feel weathered and organic forms draw from natural surroundings.
"I live in an environment where I could touch nature on a daily basis. Plants change with the seasons, and their shapes, scents, and textures all stimulate the five senses. Spending time with plants may even be more enjoyable than pottery."
_ Tamotsu Suzuki
"As I build with coils of clay, I have a sense of the form I am moving towards. I break the form, sometimes opening it further. Through this opening, the previously hidden interior is revealed, and the form takes on an expression that did not exist before. I am drawn to what can only emerge through breaking the form."
