Konrad Koppold

German Wood Artist

Konrad Koppold creates thin-walled vessels in native woods, particularly oak, exploring the balance between form and surface.

Working with asymmetrical shapes turned on different axes, he brings a sense of movement and tension to the minimalism of his designs. Heavily brushed surfaces reveal the grain and living structure of the wood, while natural tannins create subtle variations in the colour.

"I have been working as an interior designer since 1998. While living in Alaska for several months (2001), I discovered a book written by the English woodturner Tony Boase which excited me so much that I took up woodturning again."
