British Ceramic Artist

Ceramic Artist based in Scotland

Nancy Fuller was born in a rural village in Taiwan and raised in the countryside of Scotland. Her ceramic practice brings together ancient techniques from Asia with the landscape of her rural Scottish croft. Working with locally rooted materials and wood-firing, she creates vessels that speak of earth, fire, season and the intimate process of making.

Formed through thousands of small hand movements, each vessel holds the traces of its maker and the unpredictable response of the fire. The presence and attention required throughout the making and wood-firing process is tangible in each piece, with the unpredictable nature of the fire leaving its own trace.

"Through transplanting knowledge and techniques originating from ancient agricultural communities in Asia to a rural croft in Scotland, I have come to make these traditional forms which have provided me with a vocabulary to explore many values in contemporary art as well as parallels in my own life journey."
