Sarah Jerath

British Ceramic Artist

Sarah Jerath’s sculptural vessels emerge from a lifelong relationship with the landscape of Lancashire. Returning to the land through the changing seasons, she gathers wild clays, minerals and natural materials from the surrounding landscape and streams.

Working slowly by hand, Sarah incorporates fragments of earth, fossilised clays, leaves and twigs into porcelain and other clay bodies. Soft, organic forms reveal the character of these materials and subtle irregularities are embraced as part of the making process.

"Their surfaces carry the essence of stream banks, living woodlands, and the biosphere itself - layered like memory, brushed with moss, touched by the quiet intelligence of the land."
