Fossilised Wood Ash Tall Jar and Brass Base by Chloé Rosetta Bell

£110.00
Sold

“For the past three years, I have read and re-read Botanical Companions by Frieda Knobloch. Each time I opened her book I felt a resonance with my craft practice and how botanists, Ruth and Aven Nelson viewed nature. There is a resonance between craft practices which study nature and nature-study illustrated in Botanical Companions. My studio is a proposal for an interdisciplinary approach to providing an enriched representation of a landscape.”

By Chloé Rosetta Bell
From the Undercliff, Island collection, 2024
Materials: These pieces are thrown in a blend of stoneware and wild clay from the landslip below Chloé’s studio. Finished with two glazes. The first glaze uses crab and lobster shells which is a by-product of a local fisherman. The second is a seaweed ash glaze using seaweed from the bay below her studio. All materials are sourced by Chloé herself or a local fisherman just below her studio. Finished with brass which is wrapped in seaweed.
Dimensions: H;16cm, W;11cm.
Techniques: Hand-thrown and hand-forged.
Care: Gentle wash by hand with warm water. The brass will age over time due to the salt in the residue and seaweed. Gently brush with wire wool, wash with warm water and dry thoroughly.
