An intimate journey through the living heart of Japanese craft.

Craft Journeys was founded on a simple conviction: that to watch an object being made in its natural context is to be changed by it. Since our first tour in 2016, we have spent a decade seeking out the artisans, past masters, and extraordinary studios of the design world’s most storied nations: 11 journeys across Finland, Japan, Denmark, Sweden, Estonia, South Korea and Ireland, built on months of research and access rarely granted. Craft Journeys continues on our 3rd trip to Japan in that same spirit: transformational travel for those who collect not just objects, but understanding.

Join Flow Gallery’s Yvonna Demczynska and Alina Young on an entirely new itinerary through Japan. We travel south from Tokyo into the ancient kiln town of Tokoname, then on through Kyoto and deep into Kyushu, the volcanic southern island whose craft traditions are rarely visited by international travellers. Along the ancient kiln towns and folk-craft villages we meet ceramicists, basket weavers, metalworkers, textile artists, wood and lacquer craftsmen and glassmakers in their own studios, with private access rarely extended to visitors. Alongside the making, we take in the museums, temples and gardens behind these crafts, and eat together at tables where Japan’s regional cuisines complete the picture.

Developed with leading luxury travel agents, the tour includes fine dining, carefully selected accommodation and comfortable transfers between locations.
