A visit to Jon & Neu's home & studio in Auribeau, Provence

Home & Studio

We visited ceramic artists Jon & Neu at their beautiful home & studio in Auribeau, Provence, last year, where we were introduced to their material-led practice. Light streamed into their living and working spaces and they were surrounded by greenery, blue skies and the Luberon mountains.

Having trained in Japan, the duo work together to create hand built stoneware vessels shaped by their connection to the surrounding landscape. Each vessel has a gently tapered form narrowing towards a small opening. Their raw, matte surfaces are built up with layers of locally gathered and refined clays, creating subtle variations in colour and texture. Small irregularities and traces of the hand remain visible, giving each piece its own character.

"Over time, this place has shaped our work. We began experimenting with local clays, searching for a raw, rock-like texture that carried the weight of the land. What emerged was not just a material, but a way of working that felt deeply connected to this landscape. Our studio has become a space where process matters as much as outcome."
