Akiko Takahashi
Japanese ceramic artist
Working by hand and finding her forms through slow coiling, Akiko Takahashi works from her studio in Kanagawa. Inspired by nature, her work draws on the forms of shells, stones and plants, as well as the surfaces of weathered objects. Using dark clay and layers of pale, matte slip, she creates textured surfaces that evoke the effects of time. By breaking and opening the clay, she reveals hidden interiors and creates new expressions within her sculptural forms.
